Ways to Clean Your Carpeting Effectively.

If you have busy home, your friends and family may have made your carpet a nightmare with their wine, coffee, cleats, and punch. There are plenty of carpet cleaning commercials on the television but sometimes all you need is a little elbow grease to get your carpet clean.

We have all heard of using club soda to get stains out and even non-bleach chemicals like Oxiclean promise to get stains out without harming the carpet. This is not always the case though. Depending on your carpet, harsh chemicals such as Oxiclean can actually change your carpet’s pigment, which will make it look splotchy. Try to avoid using harsh chemicals on your carpet so it will look better and last longer.

Much of the time you can get a stain out with some soap, water, a rag, and a little bit of patience. Mild carpet cleaning soaps usually have enough strength to pick up the stain with a little coaxing. If the stain is fresh, use a rag to absorb most of the excess stain. Blot the stain instead of scrubbing it. By scrubbing it, you may actually make the stain area larger than it was originally. After getting all the excess liquid in the rag, apply the carpet cleaner. Once you have allowed the carpet cleaner to absorb the stain (about a half hour), you can vacuum or wipe the soap away and reveal fresh looking carpet.

Not all stains are fresh though. If you’re moving into an apartment or new home, there could be a myriad of stains from the last owners. You can try to take out the stains on your own but when you’re moving into a new house, you may not have the time.

You can rent a carpet cleaner at many grocery and hardware stores. These are usually rented by the day. If you have an entire house to clean can become expensive. If you need to clean more than one room, commercial carpet cleaning may be best.

If you need a commercial carpet cleaning business to come in, make sure they use a dry foam system. While wet foam systems will get your carpet as clean as dry foam, wet foam systems will actually saturate your carpet with water. This will get them clean but also gives mold an opportunity to form underneath your carpet. A dry foam system allows soap to clean your carpet but then is sucked out by the vacuum when it dries.

Before renting a huge carpet-cleaning machine, dumping chemicals onto your floor, or hiring a team of professionals to clean a few stains, try to assess your carpet’s damage. If the stain is fresh, you will most likely be able to get it out on your own. If there are many that have aged, you can always rent your own machine or hire commercial carpet cleaning companies to thoroughly go over each room.
